Maureen
Maureen attended our Congleton Work Hub to get help with her search for employment. She had gained her GCSE equivalent qualifications and matriculation in Uganda and went on to train and qualify to become a teacher. However, when she moved to the UK she found that her qualifications did not enable her to gain work or enter higher education here. Our Careers Advisor, Cath, recognised this major barrier and explained the UK NARIC (the UK’s agency for recognising international qualifications and skills) to Maureen.
The next barrier for Maureen was the cost to apply to translate her qualifications, but as a CIC we were able to fund this for Maureen and she is now delighted to have the certificates to evidence her qualifications. She can now follow her dream and apply to study to become a nurse.
