Community Courses

The course requires no previous qualifications or experience. The sessions are free of charge and open to all Cheshire East residents who are aged 19+ and do not already have a GCSE at grade C  / Level 4  in maths.

Anyone (19+) who wants to improve their maths skills and gain confidence using maths in everyday situations.

Ideal for anyone looking to get better at managing their bills, budgeting or wanting to improve their potential at work.

The objectives of the course are:

– To understand the principles of place value
– To be able to say and write big numbers
– To understand operations – the words we use and what they mean
– To be able to use methods for adding whole numbers
– To be able to use methods for subtracting whole numbers
– To know times tables and methods for multiplying whole numbers
– To be able to divide numbers – sharing and methods for dividing whole numbers.

You will have the opportunity to develop the following Course Related Skills:

– To understand the requirements needed to complete a functional skills qualification.
– To develop team working skills.
– To be able to apply my maths skills to everyday situations.

The course is delivered by experienced tutors in an informal adult focused setting.

You will be assessed through a range of activities.

The course is delivered one day per week, face to face at our Riverside Centre is Congleton.

There are 24 hours of guided learning time.
